The dot SE country-code top-level domain extension was set up in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was quite restrictive, so a very low number of domains were booked. Individuals were permitted to register solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, companies and organizations could order a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, as a result, the number of .SE domains has been increasing each year.
