DomainKeys Identified Mail
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) - find out more about it, what it does, how it works and how to activate it for your mailboxes.
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a validation system used to verify that an e-mail message has been sent by an authorized email server or person. An electronic signature is added to the header of the message by using a private cryptographic key. When the email message is received, a public key that is available in the global DNS database is used to check who actually sent it and whether the content has been edited in some way. The main job of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to hinder the widely spread scam and spam messages, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If an email message is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for instance, but the signature does not match, you will either not get the email message at all, or you’ll get it with a warning notice that most probably it is not a legitimate one. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email message that fails to pass the signature examination. DKIM will also offer you an additional layer of safety when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, as they can see that all the e-mails that you exchange are genuine and haven’t been tampered with in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting
The DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality is pre-enabled for all domains that are hosted in a
cloud hosting account on our cloud hosting platform, so you will not have to do anything yourself to enable it. The only requirement is that the given domain should be hosted in a hosting account on our platform using our NS and MX resource records, so that the email messages will go through our email servers. The private encryption key will be created on the server and the TXT record, which contains the public key, will be published to the DNS database automatically, so you won’t need to do anything manually on your end in order to activate this feature. The DKIM email validation system will allow you to send trustable email messages, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to customers, for example, your email messages will always reach their target viewers, whereas unauthorized 3rd parties won’t be able to spoof your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers
The DomainKeys Identified Mail option is included by default with any domain name that’s added to a
semi-dedicated server account with us. It must also use our name servers, so that its DNS resource records are handled by our platform. The latter makes it possible for a special TXT resource record to be created, which is actually the public encryption key that verifies if a given email is authentic or not. This record is set up when a brand-new domain is registered in a semi-dedicated hosting account via the Hepsia Control Panel and at the same time, a private key is generated on our mail servers. If you use our email and web hosting services, your email messages will always reach their target audience and you will not need to worry about unsolicited parties forging your email addresses for spamming or scamming purposes, which is something very important when you use email messages to communicate with your business associates.
