SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks through a command line. The protocol is preferred by many experienced users, as the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be employed for a variety of things based on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the web server allows it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for virtually anything - you could install software or restart specific services including the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed mostly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which permit you to employ the protocol if your computer system is working with a different Operating System as well. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port though a number of providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If the cloud hosting package which you’ve selected during the signup process comes with SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this feature with a click inside your Hepsia CP. In case you have chosen a different plan, the SSH access feature could be added using the Upgrades menu and it'll become available right away. All the details that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can also set what password to use from the same place and you shall be able to modify it anytime. All of the commands which are permitted are listed within the Help articles which we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you should use. An additional advantage of enabling SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is offered by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you can include it from the hosting Control Panel if required - even just for the current month. In either case, you can activate and de-activate the feature with a single mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you may enter the password that you'd like to use, because it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you may also change it as much as you require. A full list of the commands which can be executed in a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and several instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this type of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server packages include SSH access as standard, so you will not have to include any upgrades or enable anything - the moment the server is set up and you receive its login info, you shall be able to connect using its primary IP address and the login credentials that you've selected through the signup process. Because the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands which you could run. Your server shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage virtually everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. This way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and risk-free way.
